The Grade 8’s started their five-year journey at Rustenburg on 18 January 2022.
During their orientation week, they had the opportunity to interact with the larger Grade 8-group and hopefully made a few new friends.
On 20-21 January our new Grade 8’s attended the “A School Where I Belong” workshop. This was a very interactive session where learners could share, in smaller groups, their concerns for the year and describe how they felt being at Rustenburg. They had time to reflect back on their Grade 7 year and their hopes for high school.
They tackled the issue around what it means to be a Rustenburg learner and had a chance to listen to other opinions and perspectives. As a diverse group, they heard views that were very different from their own.
We hope that the message they took away from this session is that RGHS is a place for every single learner and not only the academically strong ones. We left them with some questions to reflect on and hopefully, they do just that.
Reflections:
- A place where we all belong – what does it mean to you?
- What can you do to find your place and a sense of belonging?
Each learner chose a value badge (Kindness, Acceptance, Respect, Integrity) and we hope that they wear it with pride.
