All the tournaments were played in the greater Boland region. Three members of the Rustenburg coaching staff were also involved in these tournaments.

Tatum Malherbe (Grade 9), Lucy and Rachel Kane (both Grade 10) represented the Western Province U16 South Zonal team that took part in the regional tournament held in Paarl. Their team finished first, taking home the gold medal. Tatum Malherbe also finished as the top goal scorer in the tournament.

Robyn Biccard (Grade 11), represented the Western Province U16 South Zonal team that took part in the regional tournament held in Paarl. Robyn and her team finished in third place, winning bronze medals. Lisa Penney (Grade 11), was selected for the South Zonal team but was unfortunately unable to participate in the tournament.

Alhaan Emeran (Grade 11), represented the Western Province U18B team that played in the National Inter-Provincial Tournament held in Stellenbosch. Alhaan and her team finished fourth in the B section.

After an outstanding tournament, Jodie and her team were beaten in the finals, winning the silver medals. On the back of a fantastic tournament, Jodie was also selected as a member of the SA U17 High-Performance Squad that attended a camp in Franschhoek immediately after the tournament.

Ms Sasha Sivertsen (RGHS U16A Hockey Coach), was selected to umpire at the U18 National Inter-Provincial Tournament. Her efforts with the whistle earned her a Level 2 National grading at the tournament, and she was entrusted with umpiring the U18B sectional final.

Mr Olu Ncukana (RGHS U19A Hockey Coach) and Ms Erin Coetzee (RGHS U14A Hockey Coach) were appointed respectively as the Head Coach and Assistant Coach of the Western Province U18B team that played in the aforementioned National Inter-Provincial Tournament.

Congratulations to all of our RGHS Hockey stars on their excellent achievements during the holidays.

Cape Town International Hockey Tournament

In the first week of Term 3, the U19A Hockey Team competed at the Cape Town International Hockey Tournament (CTIHT). After a long break and not too much time to prepare for the tournament the team quickly found their momentum in their first game. The tournament was made up of 24 girls’ teams and 24 boys’ teams. Finishing second in their pool meant that they qualified for the Quarter-Finals. After a nail-biting battle against Somerset College that ended in a 2-2 draw, we sadly lost in a shootout. Our fortunes changed when we met a strong Paarl Girls’ High team. With the game ending in a 1-1 draw, the team stepped up and won the subsequent shootout. We lost our final game of the tournament, which meant that the team finished the tournament in 6th place. An incredible effort for a young side that is on the rise. Congratulations to the team for their efforts.

SPRINGFIELD CONVENT LEAGUE MATCH 4 – Thursday 21 JULY

Our Rustenburg Girls’ Netball teams played against Springfield Convent on Thursday 21 July in the first league fixture of the new term. It was a beautiful day for Netball with not a cloud in the sky and overwhelming support from parents, family and friends all around our Netball courts.

All nine Netball teams took to the court as we kick-started the second half of the season. The day ended with all nine teams victorious. The U16A’s had a brilliant game against the Springfield U16A team, with both teams continuing to chase each other’s scores. Our U16A’s proved dominant in the end with a few valuable turnovers to secure the much-needed win. All our teams showed some dominance with their performances, pulling away from the opposition with a very healthy score line. The RGHS 1st Netball Team were unreal as they beat Springfield 1st team 44-7.
