Hockey

RGHS Hockey Stayer’s Festival

This past Saturday saw us hosting the Inaugural Stayer’s Hockey Festival to close off what has been an extremely successful season. The aim of the festival is to offer coaches the opportunity to have an early look at their prospective 2023 teams.

The event was a resounding success and the depth of talent we have was great to see.

Congratulations to Emma Naiker, Ashleigh Rix, Loren-Kate Dicks and Hannah Dommisse who all made their First Team debuts at the festival, and were hugely impressive.

We are looking forward to what promises to be an exciting 2023 Outdoor Hockey season.

Outreach Clinic

Due to delays in communication with the clubs we have reached out to, we have unfortunately had to postpone the outreach clinic until the 4th term.

This does however allow us more time to plan and expand our reach. Once the dates are finalised, you will be notified of those dates.

Water Polo

Mackenzie Cup Report – 16-18 September

Rustenburg Girls’ Water Polo pre-season squad, was brought together to play in their first pre-season tournament for the start of the summer sports season. The best of our polo players back together again, post-WP trials, were a young outfit taking on the toughest U-19 Water Polo players in the Western Province and beyond. Feeling confident about the challenge and needing to rise to the occasion, our young squad took every opportunity with grit and tenacity to attempt a shot at success. It was a tough start for the team. There was much belief that they could get a result, but every opposition proved too strong over the weekend.

Though the results did not reflect much of the efforts on display, it was a valuable tournament nonetheless. There were some great moments which reflected what we are capable of. Many lessons were learnt and it was a weekend of massive positive failure; we are sure to see this group of players become the next best thing in the game for years to come.

The results of the U19A McKenzie Cup were as follows:

Notable achievements must be mentioned of Stella Lazarus (Grade 11) who made the Tournament Team for her excellent contributions to the game. We are incredibly proud of the players who formed a part of this tournament team. Well done!

Highland Dancing

The Highland Dancing SA Championships and Interprovincial Challenge took place in Gauteng this past weekend.

Bella Francisco (Grade 11),  Lexi Vervoort (Grade 10) and Jessica Munro (Grade 8) took part in the Intermediate All Ages section, with excellent results.

The results on Saturday for SA Champs Intermediate section were as follows:

  • Bella      6 x 1st, 1 x 2nd, 1 x 6th place – Bella won the runner-up trophy for the Highland section and she won the trophy for  National Dances.
  • Lexi        1 x 3rd, 2 x 4th, 2 x 5th, 1 x 6th place
  • Jess        3 x 5th place

The results on Sunday for the Interprovincial Challenge Intermediate section were as follows:

  • Bella      3 x 1st, 1 x 2nd place
  • Lexi        1 x 2nd, 1 x 3rd, 2 x 5th place
  • Jess        1 x 3rd, 1 x 4th, 1 x 5th place

Bella won overall and Lexi was runner-up on Sunday.

In addition, these excellent results contributed to the Coastal Team (WC and EC combined) winning the Interprovincial Trophy. The dancers also took part in a choreography dance and the WC teams won both their sections. The weekend was filled with sore feet, exhausted bodies, new friendships and many happy memories. Congratulations to our three dancers.
