Cape Town International Hockey Tournament
The U19A and High-Performance Invitational Hockey teams returned to school on 18 July and landed straight back into the action. We hosted Framlingham College, a boarding school near Woodbridge, in the United Kingdom.
Our visitors definitely livened the place up, with a touring party of approximately 50 learners and staff supporting and cheering energetically on the side of the field.
Our U19A team was not deterred by this though, and continued to put on a classy performance, on their way to a hard-fought 6-2 victory. In the pouring rain, a gusty Invitational team narrowly lost out 2-1
This match would be the first of eight matches the U19A team would play in the week, as they would start their journey in the Cape Town International Hockey Tournament from 19-23 July.
Playing matches in Somerset West, and Durbanville on the first two days of the tournament was a challenge that was embraced well, with the team going through to the quarter-finals once again, where they would meet a familiar foe, in Somerset College, who we also played in 2022.
Sadly, in a repeat of the 2022 quarter-final, College was victorious, leaving us to play for positions 5-8.
The team ended in seventh position, out of a total of twenty competing teams. Congratulations.

Portsmouth Grammer School (UK Touring Team) – U16A matches
This past Tuesday, 25 July, Rustenburg Girls had the privilege of hosting Portsmouth Grammar School from the UK, as part of their SA Netball tour and to enjoy some of the Netball World Cup taking place here in the Mother City.
Rustenburg’s U16 and U15 A teams combined to compete against the strong opposition of PGS; it was a game played in the best spirit, competitive nature and incredible Netball skills were on show. Our Netball team was unfortunate on the points sheet despite the hard work and tenacity on the court. PGS won the game 26-17 and Lucy Walker from RGHS was voted player of the match by the PGS team.
After the match, both teams sat down for dinner and mingle where plenty of stories and Instagram accounts were exchanged. We are thankful to Portsmouth Grammar for the visit and for bringing their competitiveness to Rustenburg, where an abundance of experience and camaraderie was gained.
Thank you to the RGHS learners for their assistance and support on the day. You’re all awesome!
