SCHOOL FOOTBALL LEAGUE

The Schools Soccer League continued on Tuesday, 1 August with the Rustenburg 1st and 2nd teams playing against Norman Henshilwood High School. The 1st team played at Norman Henshilwood while the 2nd team played at home. The 1st team displayed spirit and tenacity, not taking any leads for granted in the spirit to win. This was evident as they bagged a massive win with a score of 17-1. The 2nd team also faced a competitive match and through targeted goals and great team synergy, they managed to finish the match with a 2-2 draw.

Both teams have played their best and we are proud of them.

FRIENDLY MATCHES VS HERSCHEL GIRLS

Our Rusty Netball players took on Herschel in a friendly match on Thursday, 3 August as part of our Term 3 fixtures. It was a stunning afternoon at RGHS, with temperatures reaching 25 degrees on the day.

All 10 teams were scheduled to play. Unfortunately, we had to postpone the U19B game. The remaining 9 teams that competed, had some tough matches to face as Herschel proved dominant in all age groups. Our U14A’s, B’s and C’s as well as the U16C’s managed to bag wins on the day. All results vs Herschel are as follows:

GORDON’S SCHOOL (UK TOURING TEAM) – U15A & U16A MATCHES

Last week Monday, 31 July, Rustenburg hosted another UK touring side, Gordon’s School, as part of their SA Netball tour, specifically to watch the Netball World Cup taking place at the CTICC.

Our Rustenburg U16A and U15A teams played against Gordon’s School in a 4-quarter match. There was some fear that the matches would not take place owing to the rainfall over the weekend, but it turned out to be a great day. Our opposition did not have the best travelling experience as they had landed just a few hours before the matches commenced. We are so grateful to Gordon’s School for arriving and continuing to play the matches in the best spirit. Both our RGHS teams won on the day.

Post-matches, all teams sat down for a dinner and mingle where plenty of stories and Instagram accounts were exchanged. Many thanks to Gordon’s School for making the experience incredibly worthwhile.

Thank you to the RGHS learners for their assistance and support on the day.

ST. GEORGES & REDHILL COLLEGE – U15A & U19 MATCHES

On Tuesday, 1 August, our U15A’s and mixed U19’s travelled to Herschel to play against St. Georges and Redhill College for some Netball game time.

Our U19 team was made up of U19A and U19B players, and they played a highly competitive match against Redhill. Their positional play and overall skills were challenged, but the players improved in every single quarter. The scoreline did not reflect the brilliant effort that was shown, and the players can be proud of their performance.

The U15A’s are in incredible form and playing some of their best Netball at the moment. They fought hard to earn their victory over St. Georges.

Skye Micklethwaite (Grade 11) competed in the U19 Western Cape Biathle Championships at Somerset College on Saturday, 5 August. Skye competed in the 1.6 km run, followed by a 200m swim and ending with a 1.6 km run. She won an impressive Gold medal with an SA qualifying time that will allow her to represent the Province at the SA Biathle Championships that will be held in Pretoria later this year. We applaud you for your achievement. Well done!
