Sports Update 17 August 2023

On Wednesday 23 August, Rustenburg will be hosting the PGSGU Cross Country. There will be numerous competitors from respective schools that will arrive on campus to run. Please be aware that school will finish at 14:30 on that day.

Please come and support our Hockey, Football and Netball Teams this weekend at the Rustenburg-Rhenish Derby Day (18-19 August).

Football

In celebration of National Women’s Day on 9  August, the German International School of Cape Town hosted a GO-CUP tournament. Rustenburg sent 3 of the Football teams to compete. The tournament had numerous schools competing for the 2023 Cup. Rustenburg faced very strong competitors and unfortunately, the 2nd and 3rd teams fell short to reach the quarter-finals, while the 1st team forged ahead.

In an absolute nail-biting performance, the 1st team managed to secure themselves a spot in the finals where they faced off with the hosting school, German International School of Cape Town. The teams were fighting tooth and nail and refused to let their guard down, until the final whistle blew at full time, with both teams on a draw and onto a penalty shoot-out. Following a very tough penalty shoot-out, once again, with both teams neck on neck, the final victory went to the host school.

Despite the loss, Rustenburg showed every school present that they have tenacity and great team synergy. This is what helped the team reach that level in the competition on their first try into the tournament. We are proud of every player that took the day off to play in this tournament and well done to each of you for playing your best and supporting one another till the very end.

Rustenburg 1st, 2nd and 3rd Football Teams.

Squash

The Western Province Youth Squash League continued on Monday 14 August, with Rustenburg A1 playing against Westerford High School and Rustenburg A2 vs Herschel. Both teams played their very best game and showed their respective competitors their tenacity and capability.  Even though A1 did not secure a win, they gave it their all, and for that, we are very proud of you.

This prestigious tournament featured some of the top hockey-playing schools in South Africa, ranked 13-25 on the national rankings.

With 3 gruelling matches on a very hot first day, our young team competed valiantly earning themselves a hard-fought draw against a strong St Stithian’s team, on either side of two defeats. All results are available below.

Congratulations to Ms Sasha Sivertsen who together with her team, earned themselves an eighth-placed finish, cementing their position among the top 20 U16 teams in South Africa.

Some fantastic hockey was played on a beautiful evening, and while some results did not go our way, it proved to be an evening well spent.

Our U14A team took on Wynberg in the sole league fixture on Friday 11 August and were victorious.
