PGSGU Cross Country
Rustenburg hosted the annual Peninsula Girls’ Schools Games Union (PGSGU) Cross Country interschools, on Wednesday, 23 August. Runners represented schools from Herschel Girls’ High School, Wynberg Girls’ High School, Springfield Convent Secondary School and St Cyprian’s School. Following heavy rain the previous day, enjoying the sun and some warm weather was incredible. It was good to see some great runners hungry for the 2023 Cup. Congratulations to the following runners, Skye Micklethwaite (Grade 11) came in 1st place in the U17 category with a time of 17:38, Annie Malherbe (Grade 12) also took 1st place for the U19 category with a time of 16:27 and Amy Forbes (Grade 12) came 3rd place in the U19 category with a time of 18:25.

Fairtree U16 All Stars Tournament
Our U16A’s was fortunate to be invited to the Fairtree U16A Hockey Tournament hosted by HMS Bloemhof on Wednesday 23 August. With the U19A team playing a catch-up league fixture, and a number of our coaches involved in the senior IPT, this made this a logistical nightmare, but the wonderful team of coaches we had made sure that the day ran smoothly.

Hockey vs Somerset College
Our penultimate weekend of hockey for the 2023 season saw us hosting Somerset College for the first of what is hopefully going to be a thriving derby for years to come.
The weather was unkind at times, but that did not stop the hockey from heating up, and the delicious burgers being sold at quite a rate.
Saturday also saw us welcoming a new fixture to our calendar, as we were hosted by Pinelands High School.

The matric learners in the U19A team played their last “Friday Night Lights” game at Rustenburg and the team’s last Friday night game of 2023.
Congratulations to our coaches who were selected to represent Western Province at various levels, during the recently held Senior National Provincial Tournament.
Ms Sasha Sivertsen (U16A Coach) was selected to play for the WP A team that won gold at the tournament. Ms Erin Coetzee (U14A Coach) was selected to play for the WP team that won silver at the tournament, while Mr Abraham Groener (U19B Coach) was appointed as the umpire for the B sections Men’s final, earning him a gold medal at the tournament.
We are incredibly proud of the achievements of our coaches.
Swimming
This past weekend, Isabella Webber and Michaela Labuschagne (Grade 10s) took part in the South African Short Course National Championships at the Generations Aquatic Centre, where swimmers from all over South Africa competed against each other.
Michaela Labuschagne: Took part in the 100, 200, 400 and 800 meter freestyle, the 50 meter butterfly, the mixed individual medley relay and the mixed freestyle relay. She achieved 31st place in her 200 meter freestyle, 64th place in her 100 meter freestyle, 10th place in her 400 meter freestyle, 9th place in her 800 meter freestyle and 61st in her 50 meter butterfly. She achieved personal bests in each event as well as made the B finals for the 400 meter freestyle.
Isabella Webber: Took part in 50 and 100 meter butterfly, the 50 and 100 meter freestyle as well as the 100 meter individual medley. She achieved 24th place in her 100 meter butterfly, 59th place in her 100 meter freestyle, 51st place in the 50 meter freestyle, 26th place in the 100 meter individual medley as well as 28th in the 50 meter butterfly. She achieved personal bests in each event and is very proud of her results.
Well done to both of you for your achievements. We are very proud of you.
Rhythmic Gymnastics
On Saturday 26 August, 3 Rustenburg Girls’ High School learners: Lea Basson, Ava Sherry and Anna Castle (Grade 8s) competed in the Western Cape Rhythmic Gymnastic Championships. Anna Castle took Gold with a joint first place overall. The 3 learners will be travelling to Gauteng to represent Western Province at the Rhythmic Gymnastics National Games. Well done, we wish you all the best.
