Water Polo

MACKENZIE CUP U19 GIRLS WATER POLO TOURNAMENT 15 – 17 SEPTEMBER

The Rustenburg Girls’ 1st Team Water polo pre-season squad was selected to participate in the first of two pre-season tournaments. The team began their preparations with their conditioning and then commenced with some warm-up friendly matches against Reddam House Constantia and Wynberg Girls’ High School. The squad worked on setting new team goals and utilised the opportunity to execute their goals as a means of establishing what works best for the team. Five new junior players were included from the U16A team and a player from the U14A team.

Though the results flattered the opposition in some matches with fantastic performances by our Rustybugs, we were too inconsistent in our performances on day one losing all four matches. We took many lessons from those matches and began to understand what needed to be done in order to win. Our performances became more consistent, especially on day two of the tournament and warranted the awesome wins. The team achieved a 10th-place finish when they lost to Rhenish on penalties after being down 3-0 at halftime.

Well done to all the learners who competed and a special shout out to Bella Murray (Grade 10) for smashing 21 goals in the 8 games played – the second-highest goals scored by an individual player.

Hockey

RGHS Hockey Stayer’s Festival

With the season’s conclusion on the horizon, 8 and 9 September saw us hosting the second edition

of the RGHS Hockey Stayer’s Festival, as the last hockey event of the season. The festival is designed to assist coaches in their planning for the following season and is becoming an increasingly popular event on the hockey calendar.

Rustenburg entered two teams into the festival, with the intention of increasing the depth of quality

of hockey in 2024. We welcomed four schools, namely; Fairmont High School, Stellenberg High

School, St Cyprian’s School and Wynberg Girls’ High School. Our junior teams faced some tough challenges over the weekend but left the festival far better equipped for the challenges of First Team Hockey in 2024.

Golf

Zoey Rhoda (Grade 8), participated in the Boland Women’s Open Championships on 17 and 18  September at the De Zalze Golf Club in Stellenbosch. Despite the weather conditions not always being favorable during the tournament, Zoey managed to remain calm and focussed on her game. It is no surprise that Zoey achieved 1st position in her division. Congratulations on your achievement, we are proud of you!
