Sports Update 14 March 2024

Indoor Hockey

The final league matches of the season were played on 6 March against Herschel. An afternoon that was always going to be challenging proved to be just that.

Our teams played well beyond expectation and apart from a couple of results, they were competitive throughout. Our First Team fixture was rescheduled to 13 March, and the First Team was hoping to finish in joint first position with a win against Herschel. After an impressive performance, they narrowly missed out after settling for a draw. Congratulations to the First Team for finishing in third place out of eight teams.

PGSGU Indoor Hockey Tournament

As is the tradition at the end of every season, our First Team took part in the PGSGU Inter-Schools Tournament on 11 March, hosted by Herschel.

Coming into the tournament as defending champions, there was a lot on the line for the team, as they were the team to beat and knock off the perch.

Five really competitive schools came together to make for a memorable tournament where anyone had a chance at the title. Unfortunately, we were unable to retain the title, falling short of Herschel and settling for a second-place finish.

Congratulations to Coach Sasha, and the First Team on a wonderful season, and a special thanks to Lucy Kane, Rachel Kane and Megan Wightman (Grade 12) who have led the team admirably and played their final indoor hockey matches for the school this week. We are truly grateful for your service to Rustenburg Indoor Hockey.

Netball

The U14 Netball squad participated in the Quest for the Best festival hosted by Rhenish Girls’ High School. This pre-season tournament was the first opportunity for the newly formed team to play together being coached by their new coach.

The festival was a tough learning experience for the team. This festival provided the coach with an opportunity to get to know the squad and work on set plays. The U14s must be commended for their great team spirit and positive attitude throughout the festival, this showed in their improved performances on day two.

Congratulations to Qhayiya Mbebe who was named in the tournament team.
