The tournament had competitors such as Tatjana Smith ( Schoenmaker), Chad le Clos and Roland Schoeman. It was a very tough competition and despite enduring strain and injury to the knee, Michaela still competed in the 200-meter and 50-meter freestyle.

Below are the results:

  • 200m freestyle – placed 70th with a time of 2:21:51
  • 50m freestyle – placed 92nd with a time of 30:53

Cross Country

The Cross Country team was happy to have Coach Sean Tait join them. They began their season with a race at Groote Schuur High. The weather was good, and they did really well. Even though the course was tough, they did their best and got some great results. They were excited for the rest of the season with Coach Tait leading them.

Football

The first match for the Schools Football League took place on the 17 April, with the RGHS 1st team vs Norman Henshilwood’s 1st team. This was a true showdown. It’s always exciting when both teams are evenly matched and give it their all. Norman Henshilwood scored the first goal on penalty. This was unexpected but motivated RGHS to strike fast. Replacements were put into play, and they too, showed resilience. Congratulations to RGHS for their victory, and well done to Carys Gates and Saskia Arendse for their standout performances. It’s also great to hear that the second team played a supportive role—team spirit and sportsmanship are crucial in any competition. Here’s to more thrilling matches throughout the Schools Football league!

Pre-Season Hockey

The 2024 hockey season got off to a flying start, with take-off scheduled for a much earlier start than usual.

Our U14A, U16A and U19A teams were involved in some action-packed pre-season festivals and tournaments, while the whole school welcomed Hoër Meisieskool Bloemhof for the second edition of the derby between the schools.

The U14A team were first out of the blocks, playing in the Rhenish Festival. The U16A and U19A followed suit, taking part in the annual Spar Hockey Festival on the weekend of 8-10 March.

The U16A team finished in fifteenth place out of twenty teams.

During the term 1 holiday, the U19A team took part in the Belgotex Easter Tournament. With plenty of new faces in the team, it was always going to be challenging to try and repeat or better the efforts of 2023, where the team finished in third place. It was a pleasure to watch the growth and development of this new, young team, competing amongst some of the top schools in the country. Narrowly losing in their final game, the team managed to finish in fourth position out of a total of forty participating teams.
