The RGHS Cross Country team travelled to Pinelands High School for the second race of the season, where they delivered an impressive performance and achieved notable results. However, there’s a notable shortage of participants in the senior age groups, so we warmly encourage all runners to consider joining the team.

Netball
The netball teams kicked off their season with an exciting match against Westerford on Thursday 18 April. Despite facing a formidable opponent, the teams displayed impressive skill and determination throughout the afternoon. The teams rose to the occasion, demonstrating resilience and teamwork. Moving forward, they can reflect on this match with satisfaction, knowing that they have set a strong foundation for the rest of the season.

Squash
The Squash League matches kicked off on Monday 22 April with RGHS A vs Westerford High School. RGHS B was scheduled to play against Fairbairn High School. Unfortunately, points were handed over to the RGHS B as Fairbairn was unable to fulfil the fixture. The match of RGHS A vs Westerford HS was a thrilling one! This match showcased the team’s resilience and skills. Every opportunity was taken and every player took no chances. This is evident in the score. We are proud of our team and hope that they continue to show such spirit throughout the league.

Football
The Schools Football League continued on 24 April, with both the first and second teams playing against Bergvliet High School. The first team played their match at RGHS, while the second team played at Bergvliet High School. The first team faced tough competitors, who came to gain points for their league fixture. What they didn’t expect, is an equally driven team. This made the match nail-biting till the very end. The final whistle blew, with a final score of 3-2 in favour of RGHS. The second team went in blazing and showed their incredible skills against Bergvliet’s second team. They finished with an impressive 5-1 win. Well done to both teams. This is truly commendable.

Mega Festival Tour to George
Travelling to George for the Southern Sports Mega Festival from March 24-29 was an exhilarating experience for RGHS’s football and netball teams. With more than 3000 learners participating in various sporting codes, the atmosphere was undoubtedly charged with excitement and competition.
Participating in such a large-scale event provides an opportunity for athletic competition and fosters camaraderie and sportsmanship among participants. The festival likely served as a platform for RGHS’s teams to showcase their skills, determination, and teamwork while also learning from and engaging with peers from different regions and schools.
Events like the Southern Sports Mega Festival are not just about winning games but also about the experiences gained, the friendships formed, and the memories created. It’s moments like these that truly embody the spirit of sports and highlight the positive impact it has on individuals and communities alike.
Netball
The RGHS Netball team’s experience at Outeniqua High School during the Southern Sports Mega Festival was both challenging and rewarding. Arriving on the first day to see courts bustling with learners from various schools must have been an exciting and nerve-wracking moment for the team.
Encountering schools from outside of the Western Cape likely presented a new level of competition for RGHS’s learners. However, despite facing tough opponents, they showed remarkable resilience and tenacity as a team. It’s impressive that even in the face of defeat, the team remained determined and unified, using each match as an opportunity to learn and grow.
The rainy weather may have added another layer of difficulty to the tournament, but it’s commendable that everyone remained consistent in their game plan despite the conditions. This adaptability and determination are essential qualities that contribute to success in sports.
Overall, RGHS’s experience at Outeniqua High School highlights the team’s ability to face challenges head-on and emerge stronger as a result. The Southern Sports Mega Festival provided valuable opportunities for growth, camaraderie, and the celebration of sportsmanship.

8th RGHS Champions Cup
Netball
Rustenburg proudly hosted the 8th edition of the Champions Cup, a thrilling showcase of netball talent and sportsmanship. Over three action-packed days, we had the pleasure of welcoming 10 formidable netball teams, including our own esteemed host school. The tournament unfolded seamlessly, with each match loaded with intensity and excitement.
Throughout the competition, the players exhibited exceptional individual skill and agility. However, it was the collective spirit of determination and resilience displayed by each team that truly defined the event.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the volunteer learners, supportive parents, and dedicated staff members who contributed their time and effort to ensure the event’s success.

The decision to make it an open category allowed for a diverse range of schools to participate, ensuring a level playing field for all teams involved. With 10 schools, including both RGHS’s first and second teams, vying for the coveted title, the competition was fierce and the stakes were high.
Throughout the three action-packed days of fixtures, the spirit of competition was palpable as every school brought their A-game with the mission to clinch the inaugural Champions Cup for their institution. It must have been thrilling to witness the intensity and determination displayed by all the players on the field.
RGHS’s first team’s journey to the semifinals was a commendable achievement, reflecting their skill, teamwork, and perseverance. The close competition, resulting in penalties to determine the final standings, only added to the excitement and drama of the tournament.

Hockey
The 8th edition of the Rustenburg Champions Cup tournament was hosted on 19-21 April, featuring 10 hockey teams from the greater Cape Town and Winelands region. Three days of quality, competitive hockey was on show for parents, friends and neutrals. The quality of the teams meant that from start to finish, matches were a nail-biting affair. The skill and ability level on show was a marvel to witness.
The hockey trophy was won by a new school, Reddam House Constantia, who beat St Cyprian’s School in an enthralling final. Herschel edged Paarl Girls’ High School to the bronze medal, with the hosts finishing in sixth place.
A huge thank you to all learner volunteers, support staff and parents who made sure that the tournament was an overwhelming success.
