Hockey

Cape Town International Hockey Tournament

As is tradition, the first week of term 3 started with the latest edition of the Cape Town International Hockey Tournament.

With many first-team stalwarts involved in provincial and national tournaments in the June holidays, and with an eye on the Rising Challenger’s Cup and PGSGU tournaments to come in term 3, these players were rested. Some promising performances during the season up to this point earned some of the junior players a chance to put their impressive form on display at the tournament.

Some tough lessons were learnt, with some players being exposed to the highest level of school hockey for the first time, against some top schools from South Africa, Zimbabwe, Namibia and the UK. With that said, the selection of the junior players was justified, as the form they displayed during the season was there to be seen. While results didn’t quite reach the heights we had hoped, the performances kept the team positive.

The final game was rained out and settled with a penalty shootout to secure a result. The team finished in 17th place out of 32 teams.
