The Three Primary Colours, The Guerrilla Girls, American Gothic, Girl with Pearl Earring, Van Gogh, We Can Do IT, Yayoi Kusama, Vivienne Westwood, Sal Fisher, a human-sized pencil sharpening, Coco Chanel, were some of the arty characters that added colour to Rustenburg’s annual Celebration of Creativity exhibition opening night. Not only was it a visual feast and celebration of the Art and Design Department’s hard work but we were treated by the marimba band’s latest jivy hits.
DJ Gava took to the floor, providing the background sound to a plethora of artistic and fun activities; face painting, portrait caricatures, doodling, a homemade photobooth and the ever-popular affirmation boards made this evening such a success. A huge big THANK YOU from the Primary Colours to everyone who enthusiastically participated, helped with snacks and the setting up and washing up – you are so appreciated.
The next morning 160 grade 10, 11 and 12 Art, Design and Photography learners set off to the Norval Foundation to visit the exhibitions of Alexis Preller, Walter Oltmann, Cinga Samson and Lady Skollie.
What a treat it was as some of these artists feature in the matric syllabus. Seeing and experiencing the work first-hand, in real life made it very special.
Fortunately, the wet weather let up, just enough for a brief visit to the sculpture garden. We drew and reflected on all we had experienced and learned over the course of the Celebration of Creativity events.
Enjoy some photographs that capture many moments.
