Hockey
Past vs Present Hockey
The final seal to the hockey season was the now annual, eagerly anticipated matches between the current First Team and the Old Girls.
On a blistering Friday afternoon, the day started with a match between the class of E24 and their coaches. With a lot of pride on the line, the coaches stuck to their task and delivered an exhibition, narrowly defeating E24 by a score of 3-2. This result meant that the coaches maintained their undefeated record, further proving why they are the coaches.
The main event was the RGHS U19A team taking on the Old Girls, who themselves had an unbeaten record to defend. It didn’t take long for the Old Girls to flex their muscle, taking an early 2-0 lead. This only fired up the U19A team, however, and it seemed as though the comeback was on the cards. As they say, there truly is no substitute for experience, and the cherished undefeated record was not going to be relinquished easily. Despite a spirited fight from the U19A team, the Old Girls ran out 4-3 winners.
Thank you to E24 for all the years that you have given to Rustenburg hockey. It has been a pleasure to be part of your hockey journey, and I hope that you will continue pursuing the sport you love.
Thank you to the coaches who have contributed in the development of every hockey player at Rustenburg in 2024. Your contribution does not go unnoticed.
A huge thank you to all the Old Girls who assisted in making it a special day. It was wonderful to see some familiar faces returning to Rustenburg, and we hope to see more in the future.
