Dear Parents and Learners
As I take leave of Rustenburg at the end of this year, I would like to thank you for all your support over the past years. I absolutely loved my time at Rustenburg and enjoyed getting to know your daughters.
I leave a sports department that I am proud of. I believe we have built a sports programme that works for Rustenburg. It aligns with the needs of the learners, both social and team participants, and is suited to the facilities that we have on campus.
With the return of the National Girls’ School Festival in 2023, I know that a greater bond will be formed between the various Sports codes, Debaters and Masterchef learners fortunate enough to have been included in this tour. I also wish the Sports Department well with their busy year ahead, and in particular, another successful edition of the U16 Hockey and Netball Champions Cup. Please diarise the weekend, 14-16 April, when we call on the Rustenburg community to come and support our teams as well as the visiting teams.
Please click on the link below to access the sports fixtures that have been finalised so far for 2023.
This should assist our parents with their planning.

I wish you all the best for a wonderful holiday with your daughters and a fabulous 2023.
Fondest regards

Congratulations to Maggie Krieg (Grade 9) on her selection to the U17 Cape Town and Interpro tennis team.
Water Polo
Swim-a-thon
The U16A and 1st Team Water Polo players participated in a Swim-a-thon on Friday 2 December. The players had an hour in which to swim as many lengths as they could. They are raising funds for their respective tours to Gqeherba and Johannesburg in February 2023. Most of the players swam beyond the 2km mark (80 lengths) which was a wonderful effort. It is not too late to get behind our players and sponsor them.
Good luck to all our Rustenburg girls who will be representing Western Province and participating in the National Water Polo tournament in Durban in the coming 5 days.
Open Water Swimming
Michaela Labuschagne (Grade 9) was invited to take part in the Waterfront Canal Challenge on 13 November. It was a mile race and she competed with 10 elite swimmers. The competition was tough, with her being the youngest competitor as well as being one of only four women who competed. Michaela placed 6th overall and 2nd out of the women. This was an amazing opportunity to compete with some of the top Open Water swimmers in the country.
Rowing
We are excited that Darcy Gliddon (Grade 10), Hannah Murphy (Grade 10) and Sienna Calow (Grade 9) have been selected as part of the Peninsula Girls’ Rowing Club’s first crew to travel to the South African Schools’ Boat Race regatta hosted by SASRU (South African Schools Rowing Union), to be held in Port Alfred from 9 December. “It is a prestigious rowing event, and we, the club, are confident the girls will be competitive against the other girls’ quads racing the heads races on the Kowie river. The races will be televised by the Supersport Schools App”.
We wish you all a safe trip and an excellent competition.
Dancing
Hannah October (Grade 8) and her dance partner competed in the SA Dance Championships on Saturday – they won the Junior Rising Star Latin section. Congratulations.
Congratulations to Kyla Brink (Grade 12), Ziah Bobbs (Grade 10), Kristen McGregor (Grade 10),
Isabella Gomes (Grade 9) and Jami Fredericks (Grade 8) who have achieved their Western Cape Colours for 2022. They have qualified to represent South Africa in the USA in 2023 and are currently awaiting a response from Dancestar (an International competition) on whether they have qualified to represent South Africa in Croatia in 2023. Should they qualify, they will be flying to Croatia in May 2023 to represent South Africa.
The RGHS learners all dance at the K & J Dance Unlimited studios.
