Sports Update 7 March 2024

Indoor Hockey

We played our penultimate fixtures of the season against Fairmont, with our U14B team impressing against Westerford. On a blistering day in the North of Cape Town, all of our teams were tested and pushed to the limit in a series of nail-biting games. With regular coaches Ms Sasha Sivertsen and Ms Erin Coetzee away on provincial duty, we were fortunate to have our Captain and Vice-Captain, Lucy and Rachel Kane step in to do some coaching on the day. Thank you to Ms Mandi Jonker for her assistance at Westerford.

Unfortunately, goal scorers were not captured accurately this week, and selected scorers have been included in the results.

The swimmers did incredibly well, a special mention goes to Caitlin Evans who broke the u14 Backstroke 50m record.

Lifesaving

Imani Magotsi and Ellen Hodgkinson (Grade 11s) both competed in the Western Cape Lifesaving Championships held at Milnerton over the weekend of 24-25 February. The girls’ field saw strong competition in that it included current Junior European, Commonwealth Games and World Championship athletes, three current World Champions, the current British Champion, the current South African Champion and the national German team all competing.

Imani placed in the top 10 in almost all of her events, most notably placing 6th in the U17 Iron Woman race (comprising a surf swim, board, surf ski and run leg).

Ellen also placed in the top 10 positions in most of her events and walked away with 5 medals: a bronze and a silver for individual events (U17 board and ski) and two bronze and a silver for the team events. Ellen placed 7th in the U17 Iron Woman event.

Both Imani and Ellen do voluntary life-saving duties throughout the season and we thank them for their service in keeping our beachgoers safe.

Open Water Swimming

Good luck to Michaela Labuschagne (Grade 11) (10km and 5km events) and Caitlin Evans (Grade 8) (5km and 3km events) who will leave for the SwimSA Open Water Championships in Jeffreys Bay this weekend. Good luck!
