Football

Another week of the Youth Football League brought with it an exciting series of matches. The RGHS 1st team put up a commendable fight in a closely contested game against Claremont High School, ultimately resulting in a 1-0 loss. Both teams showcased remarkable consistency and skill, with RGHS displaying heart and determination throughout the match.

The 2nd team faced off against Plumstead and emerged victorious with a 3-0 win. The match was intense, but the 2nd team capitalised on every opportunity and demonstrated excellent teamwork.

Well done to both teams for their great performances!

We wish both teams the best of luck for their upcoming fixtures this week.

Netball

The PGSGU Tournament was originally set to be held in Rustenburg, but due to adverse weather conditions, the senior tournament was relocated to the Herschel Indoor Centre.

The U19 tournament began with Rustenburg facing off against Wynberg. Unfortunately, Wynberg was unable to field a team, resulting in a default victory for Rustenburg. Rustenburg then secured a 9-7 win over Springfield but faced a tough challenge from St Cyprians, losing narrowly 8-10.

The highlight of the tournament was the final match between Rustenburg and Herschel. With Herschel poised to win the tournament, Rustenburg delivered a stunning upset by clinching a 9-8 victory in the final moments of the game. With St Cyprians, Herschel, and Rustenburg all ending the tournament with 9 points each, the winner was decided based on goal difference. Due to the lack of a match against Wynberg, Rustenburg had a lower goal difference and finished in 3rd place.

Following the U19 tournament, the U17 tournament took place, marking their debut in the league and the PGSGU tournament. The Rustenburg team, composed of players from the U19B and U15B teams, performed admirably despite limited preparation and the fact that they had not played together before. They competed in several closely fought matches and finished 4th overall, gaining valuable experience and exposure.

We also bid farewell to our Grade 12s: Kristen McGregor (Captain), Kate Furgeson (Vice Captain), Caitlin Wilson, Mila Macgoba, and Michaela Smit.

Hockey Report vs Somerset College

After a challenging visit to Rhenish the week before, our hockey teams had the unenviable task of a trip to Somerset College.

With something of a point to prove, our teams took the challenge head-on, ensuring that their last matches of the season would be memorable.

Unfortunately, the inclement weather on Saturday meant that the U19C match would end up being abandoned.
