Touch Rugby

The final week of round-robin fixtures was always going to be an exciting one, with teams tussling for a coveted semi-final spot. The Rustenburg First Team stamped their authority on proceedings, with a 5-0 win over Wynberg Girls’ High School, while other games were neck and neck right down to the final whistle. With Springfield and Rustenburg proving to be the teams to look out for, it is no wonder that both their First Teams comfortably secured semi-final spots on 28 February 2025. Both teams’ opponents are yet to be confirmed, but the matches will be at 14:00 at Rustenburg.

The Rustenburg Fourth Team has also marched on to the B-League semi-finals, with the first whistle scheduled for 14:45. It does promise to be a feast of touch rugby action, so please join us in supporting our teams.

Indoor Hockey

It was time once again to make the long trip up north to take on our neighbours from Durbanville, Fairmont High School. With seven of our eight teams wrestling through traffic to make it on time for their games, the adventure kicked off before a whistle was blown.

The action on the court did not disappoint either, with all games tightly contested, and often decided by the odd goal.

It wasn’t to be for our first and second teams, but they are already looking forward to the challenge ahead of them.

Water Polo

Matches vs Fish Hoek High School

On Friday, 21 February, our U14A and U16A water polo teams headed to Fish Hoek for a set of challenging matches.

The U14A team, a relatively new squad, displayed admirable perseverance against their opponents. Despite their valiant efforts, they ultimately fell short, with the final score reflecting a 13-2 loss. While the result was not in their favour, the team’s commitment was evident, providing another valuable learning experience for the season ahead.

Conversely, the U16A team delivered a dominant performance, securing an 11-3 victory. Their impressive display in the pool showcased the team’s significant progress and their ability to execute Coach Lara Prinsloo’s strategies effectively. The team’s cohesive play and clinical finishing were a testament to the hard work they have demonstrated since returning from their recent tour at Rhenish. This victory serves as a clear indication of their growth and potential and a reward for their commitment to training.

Old Petrians Water Polo tournament

From 20-23 February, our U19A Water Polo team journeyed to Johannesburg to participate in the annual Old Petrians’ Water Polo Tournament, hosted by St Peter’s College. The tournament, a fiercely competitive event, saw 28 teams from across the country vying for top honours. Our U19A team achieved an outstanding 14th-place finish, a result that stands as one of their best performances in recent years.

Throughout the tournament, the team demonstrated significant growth, building momentum with each match. The players’ commitment to improvement was evident, and their collective spirit propelled them forward. The highlight of the tour, without a doubt, was the thrilling encounter against the host team, St Peter’s College. Facing a daunting 6-3 deficit, our team rallied with incredible resolve in the dying minutes. A masterclass performance from Jade Jarvis (Grade 11), our top goal scorer, saw the team mount a spectacular comeback, culminating in a dramatic 6-6 draw.

Beyond the team’s offensive skills, our team’s defensive efforts were equally commendable. Goalkeeper Chloe Wood (Grade 10) delivered a series of outstanding performances, making a total of 16 crucial saves throughout the tournament. Her agility and composure under pressure were vital in maintaining our team’s competitive edge.

We are immensely proud of the U19A Water Polo team’s achievement. Furthermore, the team’s commitment to fair play and sportsmanship was exemplary, reflecting the values we strive to uphold.

Yacht Racing

Congratulations to Faith Lyons (Grade 10), who has been offered a spot on a competitive keelboat for this year’s 35th Mykonos Offshore Yacht Race. The annual offshore race to Saldanha Bay will begin on Friday, 28 February 2025. This prestigious event is the largest regatta for local sailors. Its goal is to encourage young sailors, particularly the youth and women, to participate in major regattas and gain exceptional sailing experience. We wish Faith the best of luck in the competition.

Additionally, Faith has been selected for the Western Cape Sports Academy, an initiative by the Western Cape government aimed at developing future athletes across various sports. Faith will begin the program on 1 April at the Sports Science Institute of South Africa.
